The Annual Texas Workforce Conference was held in Dallas November 29 - December 1. The conference was filled with great information and thought provoking discussions. Each year a the Annual Conference, the Texas Workforce Commission recognizes several Workforce Development Boards and Workforce Partners with performance awards. This year, West Fraser received the Employer Award of Excellence for the Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas area. The award honors private-sector employers that are actively involved with Texas Workforce Solutions and have made a positive impact on employees, workers and the community.
Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas was recognized for outstanding board performance, receiving the Texas Rising Star Child Care Award, and a check for $75,000. The Texas Rising Star Child Care Award honors local Workforce Development Boards that have improved child care quality through the creation of exemplary child care programs that demonstrate positive outcomes for the population served. TWC recognizes exemplary child care programs for outstanding performance in areas such consumer education, technical assistance and mentoring, and professional development. Over the past year, Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas expanded existing Texas Rising Star (TRS) projects and implemented new strategies to improve parental involvement and overall experience of children in daycare. Strategies included the purchase of technological tools (interactive whiteboards, a laptop, and projectors) which were distributed to 17 TRS providers to integrate new lesson plans within the classroom. Northeast Texas also purchased Brightwheel, an innovative and comprehensive early education application designed for use on mobile devices, for 24 TRS providers. Monetary awards will be used to enhance workforce service programs during the upcoming year.
