Work Opportunity Tax Credit
The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a Federal tax credit incentive for employers who hire individuals from certain target groups facing significant barriers to employment. The main objective of the program is to enable those employees to gradually move to self-sufficiency as they earn a steady income. Participating employers are compensated by reducing their federal income tax liability. Target employee groups may include: Veterans, recipients of Temporary Assistance for Need Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education & Training (SNAP E&T), ex-felons, vocational rehabilitation referrals, and Supplemental Security Income recipients.
