Texas Workforce Commission Skills Training
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) offers a variety of training grants to assist Texas employers with upgrading worker skills. Below are the details for each of these grants. Employers can contact a Workforce Solutions staff member for more information.
The Skills for Small Business program is dedicated to assisting the backbone of Texas' business community - small employers. Small businesses can apply to TWC for training offered by their local community or technical college, or the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). TWC processes the applications and works with the college to fund the specific courses selected by the business for their employees. The Skills for Small Business program provides financial assistance to help employers with less than 100 employees, train their workforce. Skills Development Fund Grants provide funding to technical and community colleges to develop and provide customized training for employers withing to upgrade the skills of their current workforce and/or train new employees. The program is designed to have a single employer or consortium of employers partner with a Texas Community or Technical College to develop and provide customized training. Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas is available to help an employer make the proper connections and provide guidance throughout the process. The Self Sufficiency grant program provides funding to community-based organizations and community or technical colleges to implement job training programs to help low-income individuals or individuals receiving public assistance. The goal of this program is to help these individuals gain independence and self sufficiency. For additional information visit the Self-Sufficiency Fund website.
The TWC Skills for Veterans initiative addresses the training needs of post-9/11 veterans returning home and entering the Texas workforce. Employers who hire post-9/11 veterans may be eligible to participate in this training opportunity. For additional information visit the Skills for Veterans website.
