1. Do you have a high school diploma or GED?

Many employers require a high school diploma or GED as a minimum requirement for work. If you are still in school, the employer will generally overlook this requirement since you are working toward that goal. If you are no longer in school and answered “no,” come see us. We can help you to earn your GED. Don’t let this be the one thing keeping you from a great job!

2. Do you have reliable transportation?

Arriving to work on time each day is so important! If you don’t have a car, will your parents or a sibling be able to drop you off on time? Will they be able to pick you up on time? If you don’t have reliable transportation, we can help you to identify some public transportation options available.

3. Do you have a resume and cover letter?

When you apply for your first job, most employers will understand that you don’t have a lot of “work” experience. It’s still a good idea to develop a resume and cover letter. This will allow you to highlight some of your skills and show an employer why you are the right person for the job. Think of any organizations you have volunteered with (like DECA or the student council), any odd jobs you’ve had to earn extra cash (like babysitting, mowing lawns), and highlight those in your resume and cover letter.

4. If you are a parent, do you have reliable child care?

Raising a child is a challenging task. Trying to juggle work, school and parenting can be an even bigger challenge. We offer child care financial assistance to eligible parents. If you are working or in school at least 25 hours per week, you may be eligible. Don’t let the expense of caring for your child stop you from a better future for you and your child.
