Employers considering a reduction in force may consider the Shared Work Program. Through this program, an employer reduces the number of hours worked each week for a specific group of employees. Any wages the employee loses as a reduction in hours can be supplemented by partial unemployment insurance benefits. By "sharing the work" it reduces the impact on the employees and the employer while allowing the employer time to make adjustments.
